This circular mosaic is part of an artwork which acknowledges the Wurundjeri people who lived along Kororoit creek near the school. This part of the mural is an artwork about the creek with the trees , plants and animals that were important to the Wurundjeri People when they lived there. The second part of this art project is a written acknowledgement which will go on the wall near this circular piece.

Avondale Heights Pre-school Project - Some of the final artworks ready for installation

At Avondale Heights Pre-School we made a ceramic and mosaic project to honour and acknowledge the original owners of the land. The original people who lived in Avondale Heights were the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. The Wurundjeri people used the natural things they found around them to make their artwork. We have used clay and other earth materials to make the creatures that lived in this place when the Wurundjeri People lived here.The children made the creatures in workshops with Debbie. After being fired in a kiln the creatures were glued to boards and parents filled in the background with mosaic. The mosaics were designed to match the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander Flags. This community made artwork also includes acknowledgement of the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of the land, and expresses our respect for all Indigenous Australians. It also celebrates the many animals who lived alongside the Wurrundjeri People in this place. Here are some of the final artworks ready for installation at the new centre!

The dragon Mural at Gardenvale Primary School

Here is the dragon mural that I am working on at Gardenvale Primary School. The students have made all of the pieces - grades 3 - 6 at the senior campus. A group of four grade six students made the dragons head, arms and legs. Year 3s made the waves, year s made the scales of the dragon and the year two students made the turtles, jellyfish and starfish. The year 6 students made the painted tiles.

At St Marks Primary School, the parents have been working on these mosaic butterflies which have ceramic features on them made by the children. We are making ten of them to place around the school.

The pavers in the playground at Strathmore

The pavers look great in the garden and play areas of Strathmore Community Kindergarten. These are some of the pavers that parents made in workshops with Debbie in 2009.

Here are some more pavers made by the parents of Strathmore Community Kindergarten in 2009. I had mosaicing workshops with two groups of parents to make these pavers. The pavers now decorate the children's playground.

The parents of Strathmore Community Kindergarten made these pavers a couple of years ago, in workshops with me. Aren't they wonderful. They have been embedded in the kindergarten playground as stepping stones.

An Under the sea mosaic at Keilor Heights Primary School

This Under the Sea Mosaic Mural was made by Michelle Barry and Debbie Qadri at Keilor Heights Primary School. The ceramic features of the mosaic were made by the children, teachers and parents of the school.
The mosaic is seven metres wide and two and a half metres high.
All of the classes in the school participated in workshops to make the ceramic features for the mosaic of fish, mermaids and mermen, boats, shells, a treasure chest, corals and seaweed, swimmers and deepsea divers.
All of the ceramic features were made using white earthenware clay and liquid underglazes. They were fired in the school kiln.


This is a view of the mosaic from the opposite angle.


The features were glued onto the wall and the background filled in with a mosaic of broken tiles to suggest the sand, sea and a stormy sunset above.


Near the centre of the mosaic is a black rock that reaches up to become an island with a lighthouse.

The Under The Sea Mosaic Mural was made by Debbie Qadri and Michelle Barry, featuring ceramic features made by the children, teachers and parents of Keilor Heights Primary School.
