Overnewton Rd Cylinder, Keilor

This project came about when I discovered this great cylinder and thought wow! we could make that into an artwork. I emailed several authorities, but no-one claimed to own it, and Melbourne Water suggested that Overnewton College was responsible for it. So I asked them if it was okay if we make this into an artwork. Yes!

A Class of year 8 Art Students worked with their teacher, Louisa Zaghis and myself, to make a creative response to the Goldrush era in Keilor which made the sleepy settlement into a bustling town. We were assisted bylocal historian Susan Jennison OAM and the Keilor Historical Society, The historical Society suggested the theme of the Goldrush.

Installation of artwork onto the cylinder

Above and below: organising the text into alphabetical order on the car bonnet, so it can be picked up easily to make the required sentences.

We have made a ceramic tile of this information and placed it near here in the mural.

Deer Park History Mural Completed

Deer Park History Mural - Deer Park Arcade next to Deer Park Pharmacy on Ballarat Rd.
This was a big project which was finally completed today.
My role in this was facilitator and artist and it involved many days of volunteer work. I was assisted by many other volunteers and there were many partners in the project.

640 local artists have been involved in this mural and their names are featured as ceramic tiles.

Over twenty days of volunteer work was  involved in the preparation and firing of the ceramic artworks, research and installation of the mural.
